We all know that Chanakya was a teacher, philosopher, economist, jurist and royal advisor. He is also identified as Kautilya or Vishnu Gupta, who authored the ancient Indian political treatise, the Arthashastra.
But, here are some other facts we all need to know about the famous philospher, CHANAKYA !
1. Extremely cunning and shrewd personality
Chanakya was blessed with extremely intelligence and great intellect. He could make plans in such a way that he had hundreds of back-ups of every situation. He could think way ahead as compared to a normal person. Apart from politics, Chanakya even acquired the knowledge of medicine and astronomy. He had a mastery on “Samudra Shastra” by which he could judge and analyze what a person is thinking by only looking at the facial expressions.
2. Creation of an empire
Chanakya was the man who was responsible for creating the biggest empire of his time on the Indian subcontinent with the help of Chandragupta Maurya, who became the emperor when he was just 19 years old. The command of Chanakya on politics and philosophy helped him in making Chandragupta Maurya, one of the greatest Kings of India.
3. Chanakya’s thoughts on women were awful and repulsive.
No matter how great Chankya was with his knowledge and leadership qualities but his thoughts about women are still being questioned!! His thoughts on women are highly condemned in today’s scenario. According to the great scholar Chankya “women could not be trusted or they have inherent tendencies of “low moral character and falsehood”.
“Arthashastra” is a serious manual on statecraft, on how to run a state, informed by a higher purpose, clear and precise in its prescriptions, the result of practical experience of running a state. It is not just a normative text but a realist description of the art of running a state. His views and lessons are still being used by the great leaders.
5. Mystery around his death
Chanakya died in 283 BC. There are many versions of stories regarding the death of Chanakya. Some say that after his retirement he went to jungle and died there. Some say that he died because of the conspiracy of Subandhu, a minister of the Bindusara’s court.
